More Shakugan no Shana Second

January 16, 2008

A bit of an update on the show now that I’m a whole eight or so episodes in. The musics still good when you actually get to those nice fighting tracks. The eyecatch song is back to normal as well. I only have one little problem with this show right now. It’s turned into a slice of life show. All that’s happened is we follow Yuji and Shana around doing whatever happens to come up. There’s been little to no actual fighting. Episodes are still interesting but I liked the first season for the action parts as well as the random bits. Hopefully it picks up soon.

Shakugan no Shana 2

January 15, 2008

Well since this has made it to it’s thirteenth episode I finally started watching it… last night to be precise. I’ve had it for a while and just never had time to get to it, which is what happened to a lot of shows sadly. I’ve had some I’ve been watching for three or four months and I’m not past episode one. First off, I love what they did with the OP theme. Both the OP and Ed theme for the first season were not to my taste. But the new one is well it’s a nice song put to some really good guitar work. Of course they could have done other things to make me like it, I mean I love the Shugo Chara OP and it’s got cute and sweet dripping out of every corner of it.

The singing reminds me of a song but I have no idea what that may be at the moment. Episode one starts off with some flashbacks of a sort. We get to see some ‘people’ who are already dead come waltzing around. Friagne (The guy with the doll) and Sorath and Tyrael… those incestuous little blonde twins… So for most of episode one Yuji runs around being confused and finally figures out it’s all one big dream. He can’t go places he hasn’t been to already, people can’say thing he doesn’t expect and… he can fly. Then he wakes up and we find out that what was for us and him a good five minutes was actually more like two seconds. Shana yells at him with Kugimiya Rie’s wonderful tsuntsun voice and kicks him… which just makes me think of Zero no Tsukaima… The art looks the same the music is… well I wasn’t overly impressed. i loved the music from season one, the saxophone heavy I’m not sure what genre it was supposed to be. All I recall is the saxophone played along with violins and other string instruments. It gave it a really nice feeling… this one doesn’t dot hat, at least not yet. The eyecatch scenes… (those two random pictures with music that happen before and after the insert commercial here part) they’ve got this.. unimpressive music to go with them. Yuji’s gotten more powerful thanks to what he and Hecate did inside the fountain back at the end of season one. Apparently his Reiji Meigo has decided to restore him to the point he was at when the fountain died thanks to a certain tsuntsun tossing Blutsauger into it’s gears. Shana remarks he’s got enough power stored away in him that he’s on par with a King of Guze… which for the record.. is what Alastor is… and if you’ve seen what happens when he goes rawr well… Yuji’s packing some serious firepower for a mistes. Caramel’s still kicking around, still wearing a maid outfit and still carrying a ridiculously huge backpack. She apparently can’t cook though, which makes me wonder one thing. Remember back in Season one… the flashback to Shana’s training days… who made that spaghetti? It’s painfully clear Shana didn’t do it, Caramel can’t cook so that means the Skeleton did it? Or did Alastor just magic it up with an unrestrictive spell? Or am I thinking too hard and they just had some cooks/maids/butlers that were never ever on screen. Episode two was… well slightly more of the same, they do get sucked into a dreamworld again but this time there’s no repeated enemies and this time Shana is actually herself instead of a dream version. Oh and yes, they do refer back to that thing she was saying just before she summoned Alastor and you know, burnt all her clothes off and should have killed her… but didn’t. Speaking of which, the summoning Alastor not naked Shana, we aren’t aware this far in if Yuji still has his ring that makes him fireproof, I forget what its called. He probably does though, he carried it round since they got it in episode what… four?
